Do You Have Any Regrets?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, Regret means ‘feeling sad, repentant, or disappointed over something that one has done or failed to do’.

The term regret is often use as a fly away comment, ‘I regret eating that extra slice of Victoria sponge cake’, I regret getting those designer shoes, they were too expensive, or I regret not going to that party last Saturday everyone there had a top night.

However what are your biggest regrets? Those type of things that when you think back it gives you a massive feeling of disappointment, guilt, dejected.  Is there something you wish you had done or done differently? Was you too busy, did you lose touch with a friend, did you not tell someone important to you, you love them, was you too worried about what others may think of you or not having enough confidence  to chase your dreams?.

A chalkboard erected in the middle of New York City ask passers-by, what were their biggest regrets? See the video below.

This video demonstrates that people tends to regret the things they didn’t do more than the things they did do.

As the video states “They were about chances not taken, words not spoken, they were about dreams not pursued”.

Notably at the end of the exercise, participants was given an eraser, to erase the regrets they had written on the board.  This allowed them to not only physically erase their regrets but also psychologically erased them, enabling them to have a clean slate.

This reinforces that is never too late for us to have a ‘clean slate’ to right the things we regret. We can take the opportunity NOW, to remedy those mistake or chase those dreams that you have put to the back of your mind, it reminds us to also take chances, live life fearlessly and treasure and tell the people in our lives that we love and value them.
